What is a Sitemap & its Importance in SEO?

There are two types of Sitemap for a website.
  •  HTML sitemap
  •  XML Sitemap
Sitemap as the name suggest is the map of the entire website it allows you to find page very easily without having you to inspect the whole site. Sitemap plays an important role when the site is really big having 500+ pages.
So now since you have understood what is Sitemap let's talk about HTML sitemap.
A HTML sitemap is a map which is there on the website so whenever any user wants to know the location of any page he just clicks the sitemap URL & he can find that page very easily in seconds.
An XML sitemap is for search engines mostly when we submit a sitemap to a website like Google
the google bot will crawl over the sitemap, this sitemap helps the googlebot to understand the entire
structure of the website.
Preparing an XML sitemap is very easy for those who have basic knowledge of XML but if you dont want to waste your time in learning XML or writting XML code for your website you can visit XML sitemaps.
This site allows you to create an XML code for 500 pages of your website for more pages you will have to purchase a pro version.
ROR stands for Resource of resource which means that ror sitemaps contain a detail information of your website in XML format.

what is robots file?

This is nothing but a simple text document which we upload in public_html of your website domain.
It informs the googlebot which folder should remain from the google search engine & which folder it should display
For example if you have admin folder which you dont want to show in the google search results u can simply write
     Disallow : /admin/
      User agent :*
The star symbol in front of user agent shows that every search engine is allowed .
Note : if u want to disallow another folder u have to again write disallow : /foldername u cannot simple add another folder in front of the slash of the earlier mentioned disallow.
