SEO has existed in this world far from the time since search engines were developed. But in those early days search engines were not smart enough to recognize which websites are good and should get ranked for specific words. Also the results shown were not accurate. Most of the people in the SEO world started doing spamming the internet world to gain rankings for their websites. This was a major concern for search engines and the online world. So in the years to come Google started updated their algorithm. This algorithm was named "Panda" by Google.

Panda updates were done on a regular basis by Google. The latest Panda update is on March 14, 2013 which is also said to final update. This is the #25th Panda update by Google. In this update Google has mostly focused on content. They want original high quality content to be displayed on your website for it to get ranked well in search engines.

There was another update recently by Google which is termed as "Penguin". This update mostly focuses on the back-links your website has from other websites. Mostly people used to collect a lot of back-links from low quality websites or by doing link exchange. Back-Links are one of the most important factors in ranking your website up in Google search results. More the number of Back-links from High Page Rank websites, the more boost you will get in the search results.

But people started doing a lot of black-hat SEO techniques to gain these back-links. To curb this Google has released Penguin update. This update puts a penalty on those websites who have achieved back-links using black-hat SEO techniques.
